Advanced College Credit Student Handbook What is Advanced College Credit?Advanced College Credit (ACC) is a dual credit program involving a partnership between Clackamas Community College and our local high schools to grant college credit for approved college-level courses being taught at the high school by high school instructors who meet the college’s instructor requirements. These college credits are posted to a CCC transcript and apply to certificates and degrees here at Clackamas Community College or can be transferred straight to another college or university. The ACC Program allows you to get an early start toward a college certificate or degree, saving you (or your parents) time and money! The credits earned through ACC post to a college ranscript just as if you took the course on campus. This program is a great opportunity, and requires planning, follow-through and attention to deadlines. Student ResponsibilitiesACC students are responsible for reading, understanding and following the information provided in the ACC Student Handbook. If there are any questions, be sure to ask for clarification from your ACC Instructor, the HS ACC Site Coordinator or from the ACC Office. ACC students are responsible for meeting registration, drop and payment deadlines. It is your responsibility to know the registration dates and the deadlines for payment and for dropping ACC courses. The high school ACC instructors will do their best to remind you of important dates and deadlines, but ultimately it is you, the student, who is responsible to know these dates and to meet the deadlines. These are posted each year under the High School Course Lists Tab at the ACC website: http://depts.clackamas.edu/acc/HighSchools.asp ACC students are responsible for applying for a CCC Student ID # and maintaining their student account with accurate contact information. All CCC students must have an ID # before registering for college credit classes. This ID # becomes your permanent CCC ID # for ACC and any future registration or business with the college. You should only apply for an ID # once to avoid the possibility of a duplicate record and split transcripts. If you think you may already have a CCC ID #, please contact the ACC Office (503-594-3208) or the Registrar's Office (503-594-6100). The ACC Program Application is found under the Register Tab at the ACC website. ACC students are responsible for keeping track of their CCC ID #, Username/CCC email address and password. This information is needed to log into the student system for registration, payment, transcripts, etc. It is very important that you write the information down and keep it in a safe place for future access. Here is a form to record the needed information ACC students are responsible for registering for the college credits accurately and within posted timelines. Many year-long ACC courses at the high school earn multiple college credits, spread over the year. It is important to review the course grid under the HS Course Lists tab to see which terms you will need to submit registration during the year. The High School Course List Grid can be printed out and posted on the refrigerator to help you remember the registration dates and the drop and payment deadlines. http://depts.clackamas.edu/acc/HighSchools.asp ACC students are responsible for meeting course prerequisite requirements for the ACC courses as established at the high school and at the college. College courses must be registered for in sequence for courses that have prerequisite requirements. See the college course catalog to verify. http://www.clackamas.edu/documents/catalog.pdf ACC students are responsible for completing the curriculum and assessments for ACC courses as approved by the college. Reasonable adjustments in teaching methods and/or assessment delivery that do not alter the essential content of a course or program, may be possible for students with a documented disability, but all students must meet the student learning outcomes and the assessment rigor for the course in order to be eligible for college credit. If special services are needed, the student will work with the high school for these services. ACC students are responsible to pay the $10 per credit fee for any ACC classes they register for. Payment is due at the time of registration, but must be paid in full by the payment deadline posted on the HS Course Lists. Holds will be placed on students' account with a balance past the payment deadline. This hold will prevent further registration and access to transcripts until the balance is paid in full. ACC students are responsible for dropping college classes by the drop deadlines posted for each term at the ACC website to prevent a class and grade from posting to their college transcript. If you've registered for an ACC course and decide you do not want the class or grade to post on your college transcript, you must drop the course by the posted drop deadline. This will prevent the class from showing on your transcript at all. After the drop deadline, the course will post and you are responsible for a grade posting to your transcript. ACC students are responsible for checking their college transcript for grades and accuracy at the end of each term registered for college credit. It is important to have grades and courses posted accurately on your college transcript. Be sure to check your transcript at the end of each term. ACC students are responsible for ordering official transcripts when they are ready to transfer their college credit to another school or university. Official transcripts cost $10 each and are ordered on-line through your student myClackamas account. Always check your unofficial transcript for accuracy before ordering an official transcript. ACC students are responsible for following the rules of conduct at their high school and at the college for ACC Classes. Please be sure to review the CCC Student Handbook for full details. http://www.clackamas.edu/documents/handbook.pdf Registration AdviceAs a participant in the Advanced College Credit Program you will be considered a CCC student once you apply for your CCC ID # and register for your ACC credits. As a CCC student, you have access to your student records, the on-line registration and payment systems and a CCC student e-mail account through your myClackamas Account. As an ACC student you also have access to student computer labs, tutoring services and library resources for any ACC classes you are registered for in the current term. Use of labs, tutoring services and the library will require your student ID# and proof of current registration. When you participate in the Advanced College Credit Program, you are starting a college transcript that will follow you throughout life. The credit that is posted to your Clackamas Community College transcript will be reviewed by colleges and universities that you attend in the future and can make the difference between being accepted or receiving a scholarship. It is very important that you protect your Clackamas transcript and only register for college credit through the ACC program where you plan to do your best. We would recommend only having grades of A, B, and possibly C posting to your college transcript while still in high school. Definitely avoid having grades of D or F on your college transcript. Registration and drop deadlines for ACC classes allow you the opportunity to delay registration for the college credit until you have an idea of how you will do in the class, or to drop later in the term. You must meet the registration timelines or you will miss the opportunity for college credit --late registration is not allowed. If you need to drop a course, be sure to meet the drop deadlines posted or you will be held responsible for the course and grade posting to your transcript. All important dates are listed under the HS Course Lists Tab at the ACC website. Overview of Student Registration ProcessDetailed instructions for registration are provided under the Register Tab on the ACC website at: http://depts.clackamas.edu/acc/Register.asp. Here is a list of general steps to the process
Please Note: CCC has a limit on the number of credits a student can take in one term. If you are registering for more than 18 credits in one college term, you will need to submit this form to the ACC Office. You should register on-line for all the courses you can up to the 18 credit limit and then list the remaining classes on the form. Include payment for these credits with the form. The form must be signed by your high school counselor and faxed (503-650-6670), mailed or delivered in person to the ACC Office by the registration deadline of the current term. We will process the remaining registration at the college, and will mail you a registration confirmation. Cost and Payment for ACCThe cost for credit earned through ACC is $10 per credit, a significantly reduced rate to the standard tuition/fees for regular CCC students (currently $83.50 per credit). The ACC fee should be paid at the time of registration, but students do have a payment deadline to meet each term. Payment deadlines are posted at the ACC website and any student with an outstanding balance beyond the term deadline, will have a hold place on their account that will prevent further registration and access to official transcripts until the balance has been paid in full. Payment should be made on-line through your student myClackamas account. Once logged into the system click on Payment Information. If you prefer to mail a check for the ACC credits, please mail it to: Clackamas Community College; Attn: Student Accounts; 19600 Molalla Avenue; Oregon City OR 97045. Be sure to include your name, CCC Student ID # and the term the payment should apply to (i.e. fall 2011, winter 2012 or spring 2012). You may also pay in person at any CCC Campus, but please have your student ID # on hand. Please Note: Students who are on free/reduced lunch at their high school can request a waiver of the ACC fees by contacting the high school ACC site-coordinator or their high school counselor to complete an ACC Fee Waiver Request Form. This form must be completed with the site coordinator or high school counselor and faxed from the high school with all required signatures. This form should be faxed to the ACC Office prior to ACC registration or within 1-2 days after the student registers for the college credit so the student account can be coded correctly. This waiver form is valid for one school year only; a new form should be submitted each year a student is eligible. ACC Drop/Withdraw PolicyStudents are responsible to drop ACC classes by the drop deadlines for each term if they drop the class at the high school, or if they decide not to have a class or grade posted to their college transcript. The class must be dropped by the drop deadline to avoid having the class and grade posted to your transcript. Drop deadlines are posted on the ACC website on the HS Course Lists. If you miss the drop deadline, the course will post to your transcript. Students may request a Withdraw from the instructor up through the eighth week of the college term. The course will still post on the transcript but a W (Withdraw) will post as the grade. If you miss the withdraw deadline, you are responsible for the course and grade earned posting to your transcript. The withdraw deadlines are posted at the ACC website on the HS Course Lists. If you have any questions, please contact the Advanced College Credit office at 503-594-3208. To Drop an ACC course, you must log into your myClackamas account and click on Register/Drop Sections. Then select the course(s) you wish to drop and confirm the drop. To verify you have actually dropped the course, click on Account Information and choose My Class Schedule. The course will no longer show on your schedule if the drop was successful. Remember, if you do not drop by the posted drop deadlines, you will be responsible for payment and the course and grade posting to your college transcript. ACC Refund PolicyPlease note the payment due dates posted on your high school course listings page. Refunds are available as long as the class is dropped on the student's myClackamas account by the drop deadline dates listed for each term. If you miss the drop deadline, there will be no refund of the ACC fees. If you have any questions, please contact the Advanced College Credit office at 503-594-3208. GradingThe grading scale for your ACC course(s) will be listed in the class syllabus provided by your ACC instructor the first week of class. Some articulated courses may require a college final exam to be administered for the college credit. For courses requiring a college final exam, the grade earned on the exam is the grade that will be posted to the college transcript unless otherwise specified in the course syllabus. Most ACC college classes are graded on a letter scale: A, B, C, D, F, I (Incomplete), W (Withdraw). A few courses may be on a Pass/No Pass scale, but there is a limit to the number of credits with P/NP grades that can be transferred, or used toward a certificate or degree, so we do not recommend this option for ACC classes unless it is the only option available for the course. An Incomplete can only be granted when 80% of the ACC course curriculum has been completed and the student is able to complete the course within in 1 calendar year or for seniors, prior to graduation from high school. If a student misses the drop deadline for a course, they may request a W (Withdraw) from the instructor up through the 8th week of the college term. The course will still post to the college transcript, but the grade will be a W. After the 8th week of the college term, the student is responsible for the grade earned in the class (A-F), posting to the college transcript. TranscriptsA college transcript is an official record of the courses taken, grades earned and credits awarded at a college or university. This document is how credit is transferred from one institution to another and is often requested with employment applications when specific education requirements are needed. This document will follow you for life. It is very important to monitor your college transcript after each term to be sure courses, grades and credits are posted accurately. Mistakes should be reported to the registrar’s office (503-594-6100) or the ACC office (503-593-3208) immediately. When you have completed your ACC classes and the grades have been submitted by the approved high school instructors, your transcript will be updated. When you are ready to have these classes and credits transfer to a four-year school or a different college, you will need to request an official transcript be sent to the college or university you will be attending. How to order a transcript to transfer credit
You can check on the status of your order by returning to the same site and entering your Order # and the e-mail address provided on the Transcript Order Form. There is a $10.00 fee for each official copy of your transcript. This can be paid by debit/credit card. Payment must accompany your request. If you have any questions about this process, please contact the registrar's office at: 503-594-3370 or email: registrar@clackamas.edu Note: ACC classes taken in the current year are not posted on the transcript until the course is completed and grades have been posted from the high school instructor(s). To verify registration, you can view your schedule in myClackamas under Account Information. Differences between Advanced College Credit and Advanced PlacementAdvanced College Credit and Advanced Placement are two different programs and different ways for students to earn college credit while still in high school. In some instances an AP class at the high school may also be approved as an Advanced College Credit course. Students then have the option to pursue college credit through the ACC program, through the AP program, or through both. The Advanced College Credit program is a statewide dual credit program governed by the Oregon State Standards for Dual Credit Programs. Local community colleges partner with high schools in their region to review college-level courses offered at the high school for alignment with a college course at the community college. Items reviewed include curriculum content, student learning outcomes, assessment rigor and instructor qualifications. When these items are aligned between the college course and the college-level course at the high school, an articulation agreement is created and students have the opportunity to register for both high school credit and college credit. ACC courses are posted to a college transcript just as if the student took the course on campus, but the fee for these classes is offered at $10 per credit, as opposed to standard tuition/fees of $83.50 per credit. For a detailed comparison of the two programs, click here. Student Conduct and Cheating/Plagiarism PoliciesBecause ACC students are earning both high school and college credit for the ACC classes offered at the high school, students are expected to follow student conduct policies of both the high school and the college. Student conduct policies are found in the college student handbook at: http://www.clackamas.edu/documents/handbook.pdf In cases of cheating or plagiarism, the ACC instructor is solely responsible for resolving the situation; however, advice/support may be requested from the college Department Chair. For the college credit, the ACC instructor may: (1) require the assignment be redone; or (2) issue a failing grade for the assignment on which the cheating or plagiarism occurred; or (3) issue the student a failing grade for the class. The ACC instructor may choose to apply a different option for the high school credit and the college credit. Financial Aid ImplicationsThe credits you earn through the advanced college credit program may be considered within your future financial aid award. This is a good reason to be very intentional about the courses and grades you allow to post to your college transcript. We recommend only having grades or A, B and possibly C post to a transcript when you are still in high school. Please refer to drop policies above. FERPA Privacy PolicyFERPA stands for the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. FERPA is a federal law that protects the privacy of your educational records as a student. Under FERPA, Clackamas Community College cannot release the following information, without your permission:
You will provide a release of information to your high school and to parents/guardians when you register for Advanced College Credits as instructed under the Register Tab on the ACC website. This will allow us to share information with high school staff as needed and with parents as necessary. Students with DisabilitiesHigh schools and colleges operate under different guidelines for students with disabilities. All eligible students are allowed to participate in Advanced College Credit courses, but they must meet the college requirements to be eligible for the college credit. Students must complete the curriculum and assessments for ACC courses as approved by the college. Reasonable adjustments in teaching methods and/or assessment delivery that do not alter the essential content of a course or program, may be possible for students with a documented disability, but all students must meet the student learning outcomes and assessment rigor of the course in order to be eligible for college credit. If special services are needed, the student will work with the high school for these services.
