Week 9/May 29 Publishing a Web Site We'll wrap up our tutorials and put the finishing touches on our Sunny web site this week. Tutorial 6.3 addresses the issues of publishing your web site to a server and testing your FrontPage components that require a server to operate (i.e., search engine, forms handler). In addition, you'll add a couple of new server-based components, the Hit Counter and the Banner Ad Manager. Since we've already published our web sites to an internet server, you may find the first part of this tutorial either redundant or confusing. The text instructs you to activate Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), a desktop web server that is part of the Windows operating system. With IIS running on your computer, you can then publish your web site from FrontPage to the address http://localhost. Your site remains on your local computer, but operates as it would if it were actually on the internet, with all server-based components now fully functional. Web developers use desktop servers to test their sites before actually going online. If IIS was not installed with your operating system, you will not be able to do this part of the exercise. Don't worry! Your site is already published to the Internet and all server-based components should work just fine. If you have IIS, you can (and should) do the exercise. If not, skip it and complete the rest of the tutorial. After you've finished making all the revisions in Session 3 of Tutorial 6, save your pages and publish to your website (links to all our student sites can be found on the Conference page). Tutorial 6 Quiz now postedCheck out your Blackboard Assignments page for this week's quiz. Please note that the weekly quiz only stays up for one week (you need to complete before next Monday!). Keep those questions coming!I'll be patrolling the Blackboard Discussion Board this week for questions, comments, problems, etc. Please let me know if you need help! See you on the Web!
