Week 5/May 1

Lesson 4: Jewelcase Booklet
This week we'll create an 8-page, full color jewelcase booklet, like the ones that come with your CDs. You'll get lots of practice placing, positioning, cropping, and scaling graphics. You'll also get more practice creating type Styles and applying them to format your text. But the big new features introduced in Lesson 4 are

  • Frames, or shapes (i.e., rectangles, circles, polygons) to which you can add content (i.e., text or graphics) and which you will use in this lesson to create bordered, formatted text boxes

  • Layers, which act kind of like clear overlays on your page and permit you to keep like elements (i.e., text blocks) together with each other but separate from different elements (i.e., artwork)

  • Build Booklet, a PageMaker plug-in which allows you to rearrange and combine your pages in the correct order and page size for printing and binding (to see how it looks, click here)

After creating the Jewelcase Booklet, you will save a copy using Build Booklet. Since this file winds up weighing in at over 2MB (too big for most e-mail programs to swallow), you will need to export that file to PDF prior to sending in.

This assignment is due in my e-mailbox by noon Monday, May 8.

This week in the Conference Room:
You'll find a new discussion topic posted this week on our Blackboard Discussion Board. Please read and reply. And don't forget to use the Discussion Board to ask questions and discuss issues that come up as you work through your PageMaker lessons. Don't be shy; let's talk!

Questions about how to do your lessons?
Check out Weekly Lesson Plan for tips on the correct way to complete and submit your assignments. Be sure to follow the e-mail guidelines for all e-mail messages and file attachments you send to Bill.
