Getting Started:

  1. Read this Orientation completely and learn what you need to do to successfully complete this course (I suggest you print it out for easy reference). You can jump to key topics by clicking on the bookmarks at the left.

  2. Send me an e-mail at bills@clackamas.edu. Please format the subject line of your message exactly as follows: BT220/your last name/introduction. In your e-mail message, introduce yourself and give me the e-mail address you wish to use.  Important: Do this now! Until I get your message, I do not know you are in class.

  3. Go to Lessons and find out what we're doing this week in class. Current reading, writing, and discussion assignments and deadlines are posted there.

  4. Go to the Conference Room and log on to Blackboard. We'll be using this application for class discussion, questions and answers, and weekly quizzes. If you are not familiar with Blackboard or need to set up a new account, go to Getting Started in Blackboard and follow the instructions there.

  5. For more information about online courses at Clackamas Community College, go to our Distance Learning page. If you are new to online learning and would like some help getting started, check out BT101 Intro to Online Learning, a one-credit course designed to get you up and running quickly and successfully.

Registration: To participate in this class, you need to register with Clackamas Community College. You can register in person, by mail, by phone, or online. For more information, go to CCC Enrollment Services.

  • Adobe PageMaker® 7.0 Classroom in a Book®, Adobe Press, 2002

Textbooks are available at the CCC Bookstore located in McLoughlin Hall (check their website for current hours or to purchase online). Please note that this textbook comes with a CD-ROM which contains the lesson files you will need to do your assignments.

Technical Requirements: I expect anyone viewing this has access to a computer, modem, browser, and internet service provider. In addition, to complete your assignments for this course you will need:

  • Adobe PageMaker 7.0 installed on your hard disk.

  • Adobe Type Manager (or ATM Lite; comes with PageMaker on the application disk) installed on your hard disk. You'll need this program to load additional fonts from the Classroom in a Book CD-ROM for your lesson projects.

  • An e-mail program capable of sending and receiving attached files. If you are not familiar with this feature of your e-mail program, you might try looking in the program's help menu or calling your ISP's technical support (if you have it).

  • If you don't have access to the required hardware and software, you have the option of working on class assignments in the Business Department Computer Lab, located in McLoughlin Hall 130.

This web site has been designed to work on all current browsers, but for best results I recommend you download Internet Explorer 6.
