Emergency Management AAS Degree:
Letter of Introduction

Dear Prospective Emergency Management student:

The Emergency Management Associate of Applied Science Degree was approved by the Oregon Department of Education on 4/23/99.  Since that time, new educational partnerships have been formed with Oregon, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia and the United States Coast Guard to enable persons in those states and/or agencies to acquire an Emergency Management AAS degree through Clackamas Community College.

The Emergency Management degree (program) requires documented completion of 93 credits of coursework.  EM specific courses can be obtained through two sources; FEMA curriculua delivered by approved state trainers or on-line courses obtained through the FEMA Independent Study (IS link) program.

The 10 credits of Related Instruction required, can be obtained by attending classes at any regionally accredited community college and submission of “sealed” transcript for evaluation - 1 course each in the disciplines of:  Communication, Computation, Human Relations, Physical Education/Health.  Clackamas has a computer literacy requirement which may be satisfied by passage of a 3 credit computer course at any regionally accredited college.

To receive credit for courses taken from Oregon Emergency Management, an approved state educational partner or FEMA:

  1. complete a registration form taken from this website (one is required each time you register completed courses),
  2. Use only EM course numbers appearing on the program overview,
  3. Attach a copy of the appropriate Certificate of Completion for each class,
  4. Attach a check or credit card authorization of $25 per class/not per credit for Oregon residents
  5. Attach a check or complete the credit card authorization for $30 per class/not per credit for all out-of-state residents and members of the United States Coast Guard.
