Week 3 Objectives
Ore minerals
1) Know the difference between ionic, covalent, van der waals and metallic bonding
2) Understand what information can be obtained from a minerals chemical formula and be able to decipher a formula if it is given to you. Ex// SiO2 means 1 Si and 2O
3) Know the Ore mineral groups and the chemical component (ion) that makes each unique.
Carbonates: carbonate ion… CO3
Oxides: Oxygen ion… O
Sulfide: sulfur ion… S
Sulfates: Sulfate ion…SO4
Halides: a metal and non metal bonding ionically
Native elements: one element only
4) Where in Oregon has gold and silver been mined?
5) Be able to identify each of the underline minerals in activity three if you are given a sample of it with out the use of notes.
6) Be able to say what the ore of each of the underline minerals is in activity three.
