Clackamas Community College is a certified GED® testing site that offers the official exams that lead to a GED® certificate.  We know that testing is stressful, so we want to help you make this as painless as possible.  We offer the test in English- and Spanish-language formats.  If you are interested in the Spanish version of the test, please call us at (503) 594-3285 to speak with Becky.

How to Earn a GED® with CCC

1.  Prepare & study... if you want to.

2. Attend Test Registration/Orientation at the Testing Center  

  • Complete the online pre-registration process.  You MUST bring the pre-registration printout when you come to registration (yes, you still have to come in person to the registration session before you can schedule tests).
  • Registration sessions are Mondays at 8:30am, and Wednesday at 3:00pm in RR136. 
  • No appointment necessary, but no late arrivals are accepted after the session begins.
  • Arrive early, bring government-issued photo ID, and a receipt that shows you paid the $120 fee in the lobby of Rook Hall.  If someone else is paying for you, call 503-594-3283 to make sure we have the voucher.
  • If you are under 18, you must bring release paperwork from your area high school.  Call us at 503-594-3283 if you have questions about this.

3. Schedule & Take Tests

Only after you have gone through the process above, you can call the testing center to schedule your tests.  You can view our schedule by following the link in the blue column to the left.

Arrive 15 minutes early with your ID.

Check-in is 15 minutes before each test and requires government-issued photo ID.  If you are not present at check-in or do not have your ID, you will not be allowed to test.

  

4. Earn Your GED!    

You are a GED® credential holder as soon as you pass all 5 tests - it can be verified.

You will receive your transcript from us one to two weeks after you finish.

You will receive your GED certificate from the State one month after you finish.

You are invited to attend the full graduation ceremony in June. 

 

 

 

General GED Information

The GED consists of 5 timed tests. You may take the tests in whichever order you choose. Tests are given by appointment only, and you may take more than one test on a given day.

Language Arts, Reading  40 questions 1 hour & 5 minutes
Language Arts, Writing 50 questions & 1 essay 2 hours
Mathematics 50 questions 1 hour & 30 minutes
Social Studies 50 questions 1 hour & 10 minutes
Science 50 questions 1 hour & 20 minutes

Fees

  • $120.00 (covers all 5 tests and the state fee).
  • $15.00 per test retake fee (only if you need to retake a test).
  • $15.00 No Show Fee if you fail to attend your GED session without canceling you will be charged a no show fee before you can schedule your next exam.
  • If you have not finished your GED within 3 years of your first test date, you must renew your $35 state fee in order to continue testing.

Scores

Scores range from 200-800 with a score of 500 representing the average performance of graduating high school seniors. You must receive a minimum score of 410 on each test AND a total of 2250 overall (450 average).  Candidates with an average score of 650 or better will receive “honors.” Honors recipients will have a seal on their certificate and will be qualified to compete for scholarships in the state of Oregon.

Retaking Tests

You are allowed to retake a particular test if:

  • You earn less than 410 on a test.
  • You have completed all of your tests and your total is less than 2250 overall.
  • Your scores do not meet the requirement of an organization/program (documentation required).

You may retake any subject twice in one calendar year.  You must pay a $15 fee per retake.

Check Your Scores Online

You will be given an access code to check your scores online.  If you do not have internet access at home, you are welcome to use computers in the main lobby of the Roger Rook Building in the Oregon City Campus. If you do not have your access code, you can come to the Testing Center with photo ID and we will retrieve your information for you. 

Scores are generally available online 24 hours after you test with some exceptions for the writing test which can occasionally take longer to be read/scored.
